web development :: Javascript & AJAX

web applications, or applications relying on web services, or a combination of both are exploding today, bringing along more and more users that expect a familiar user experience. With the stateless condition of web applications it would be impossible to deliver robust and user friendly interfaces without client side scripting. Today client scripting is mainly Javascript, and the AJAX model.

I have extensively used Javascript/AJAX as a powerful way to implement rich, dynamic and powerful interfaces. In addition HTLM5 has brought in some very interesting additions that work with Javascript, such as Web Workers, Application Cache.

Note that, while it is true that there are still many out of version browsers around (because users do not upgrade), it is also true that today users tend to replace devices rather than upgrading them, soon most browsers around will fully support HTML5.

I am actively using (and keeping updated on) Javascript and many 3rd party libraries and I intend to implement HTML5 more and more over the coming months.

Javascript :: my preferred libraries

there are countless libraries available for Javascript, of any type and flavour you can possibly think of. All of us have our preferred one, here is my list:

• jQuery :: well, I am very used to it, and I think it is really good, very powerful for AJAX
• AJAX Cross Origin (jQuery plugin) :: very hanbdly for cross-domain AJAX calls
• Modernizr :: indispensible if you know you'll be dealing with old browsers
• Chart.js :: light, easy and stable for small charting purposes
• Moment.js :: to deal with dates
